Sexy, Oh-So-Bad Girl
IMTA Press Release
April 11, 2007
Season finale of critically acclaimed NBC drama
“The way I describe Tyra is as ‘the bad girl with the heart of gold.’ Yeah, she comes across as being really tough, but she's from the wrong side of the tracks and she's had a tough life.” – Adrianne Palicki on her character, Tyra Colette
If you haven't been watching NBC's “Friday Night Lights” because you are not a sports fan and don't know a halfback from a running back, you have been missing out on one of television’s most praised new series. “It is completely not just about football,” says IMTA alum Adrienne Palicki, who stars on the series as town bad girl Tyra. “Yes, football is in there, but as a vehicle that drives all these relationships that are going on around it. I've told people how gritty it is and how it touches on things, and these days people don't really push the envelope. But our show just keeps getting more intense.”
Described as a “Hot New Face” by numerous critics and fan sites, Palicki accumulated an impressive list of credits since attending IMTA New York in 2003, and before landing the plum role on “Friday Night Lights,” a series based on the book and film of the same name. She starred on the TV series “South Beach” and “North Shore,” and guest-starred on “CSI.” She appeared in the Aquaman-based WB pilot “Mercy Reef” as an evil siren and starred in the season 3 finale of “Smallville” as Kara. Palicki also starred in the pilot episode of “Supernatural” as Sam Winchester's deceased girlfriend. Her first film starring role was as Judy Robinson in director John Woo's made-for-TV film “The Robinsons: Lost in Space,” a remake of the classic television program. Additional film credits include the independent features “Seven Mummies,” with Matt Schulze and Cerina Vincent, and “Popstar,” starring Aaron Carter. Most recently, she had a supporting role in the Rob Reiner film “Rumor Has It.”
The season one finale of what has been repeatedly described as “the best drama on TV” airs tonight on NBC, 8:00pm Eastern, with a cliffhanger about the lead characters—not to mention about the series itself. To date, no announcement about the future of “Friday Night Lights” has been made, but it’s recently received Peabody Award for excellence will certainly help keep the lights on for the show’s return next fall, and NBC has ordered six additional scripts—a move that might favor a renewal.
