IMTA Alum Katie Holmes Takers Her Curtain Calls

Film and Broadway star returns to network television

"The thing I’m looking forward to most is people seeing Katie in a way they’ve never seen her before." — Marc Guggenheim, “Eli Stone” Executive Producer

IMTA alum Katie Holmes is having a great year as an actress. Following a well-received turn as a ditzy, free-spirited thief in Mad Money earlier this year, Holmes went into rehearsals for her Broadway debut in a revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, starring alongside theatre veterans John Lithgow, Diane Wiest and Patrick Wilson. And Holmes returns to network television next week with a hugely anticipated guest star role on the ABC hit “Eli Stone.”

All My Sons, which began previews September 18 and officially opens tomorrow, has set records in the past month as the highest-grossing play on Broadway. And though the play does not get reviewed by major theatre critics until the opening, Holmes’ performance has already generated much positive buzz among theatre-goers and in advance publicity. All My Sons won the 1947 Tony Awards for playwright Miller and director Elia Kazan, and originally ran for 328 performances on Broadway. It tells the story of a successful businessman who knowingly sells the government defective airplane parts during World War II and when the truth comes out, his life begins to unravel. The drama is currently scheduled to run through January 11, 2009 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

In the episode titled “Grace” on ABC’s quirky “Eli Stone,” Holmes plays a non-profit attorney who sizzles in a dazzling musical number reminiscent of the movie Chicago. “She does a song-and-dance number that is the best one we’ve ever done,” said co-star Matt Letcher. “We’ve done tons of [musical numbers], and she was just phenomenal.” Stephen McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment added, “I was at the table read. She was fabulous. It’s a great role for her. There’s actually some singing and dancing that she does, and she’s exquisite.”

In the highly-rated series, San Francisco lawyer Eli Stone begins to see things, which leads him to discover a brain aneurysm. His visions lead him to accept cases with little monetary gain but a lot of moral goodness. “Eli Stone” stars Jonny Lee Miller, Victor Garber, Natasha Henstridge and Loretta Devine. It airs on Tuesdays on ABC at 10pm ET.
